## English Speller Database / SCOWL

WordAxis answer-pool generation uses the official US English wordlist and metadata from the English Speller Database (ESDB, formerly SCOWL), release `rel-2026.02.25`, maintained by Kevin Atkinson and the en-wl project.

Permission to use, copy, modify, distribute, and sell any part of SCOWLv2, or word lists created from it, is hereby granted without fee, provided that the above copyright notice appears in all copies and that both the above copyright notice and this notice appear in supporting documentation. Kevin Atkinson makes no representations about the suitability of this database for any purpose. It is provided "as is" without express or implied warranty.

WordAxis uses the official non-Australian size-60 speller dictionary as its dictionary-validity source and the ESDB metadata only to select common lowercase headwords. It does not redistribute the ESDB database itself.
